What the price is made of
Two figures on every car, and four lines behind them. Nothing here is rounded in our favour and nothing is hidden in a package.
A worked example
A stock car, priced the way every car on this site is priced.
- Car price in Japan
- €11,635.15
- Our commission — 10% of the car price
- €1,163.51
- FOB Japan
- €12,798.66
- Ocean freight and marine insurance to Larnaca
- €3,500
- CIF Larnaca
- €16,298.66
The conversion rate
Cars in Japan are bought in yen; you pay in euro. We convert at our own rate, which carries the cost and the risk of moving money to Japan. What you see is the euro figure we invoice — not an indication, not a starting point — and every line below it adds up in front of you in the currency you actually pay in.
Our commission — 10%
Ten per cent of the net car price, before anything else is added. It is our fee for bidding, buying, the paperwork in Japan and getting the car onto a ship. It is charged on the car and not on the freight, because a fee on our own shipping would be a fee on a fee.
FOB Japan
The car, our commission, inland transport to the port, export clearance and loading. At FOB the car is on the vessel and the ownership question is settled. Buyers with their own freight arrangement stop here.
CIF Larnaca — €3,500
A flat €3,500 added to FOB, covering ocean freight and marine insurance to Larnaca. Flat, deliberately: a container carries several cars and a per-car average is a figure we can hold to, while a quote that moves per car is a quote that can be argued about after the fact.
What is not in either figure
Cyprus customs duty and VAT, port handling, clearance, registration and plates. They are paid in Cyprus, by you, to people who are not us — so putting them inside our price would be pretending to control them.
How long a quote holds
Three working days. Currencies move, and a price we cannot honour is worse than a price that expires. Past that we requote at the day's rate and tell you what changed.
